HAYNES GROUP COMPLETES TRANSFORMATION OF THE NEW WAYFINDER HOTEL IN NEWPORT

The re-imagined hotel brings a modern and uniquely local vibe to Newport’s emerging Innovation District

WEST BRIDGEWATER, MA - September 8, 2020 - Haynes Group Inc. has completed its latest hospitality project The Wayfinder, a 115,000 square foot hotel and conference center situated at the gateway of Newport, Rhode Island. Formerly known as The Mainstay Hotel & Conference Center owned by Dovetail + Co., and with the help of designers Reunion Goods & Services, the reimagined boutique-style hotel is now open.

“Newport has a rich history and a strong sense of community, and we are excited to have the opportunity to help transform a neighborhood with The Wayfinder,” said Michael Haynes, Co-Founder of the Haynes Group. “Not only are we taking a historic hotel and making it fresh and exciting, but we have the opportunity to help provide fantastic service for the hotel and its guests. That’s what Haynes Group is all about.”

Haynes Group takes a customer-centric approach to hospitality projects, with over 15 years of experience working with some of the region’s top brands such as the Hyatt Harbor side Hotel, the Revere Hotel, and the Crown Plaza Hotel. “We view ourselves as an extension of the hotel,” explains Haynes. “Our desire to understand our client’s business and what’s important to their guests is what makes these projects so appealing to us.”

Haynes Group worked with Dovetail + Co. to understand their business and revenue goals and plan a construction schedule that allows them to maximize profits and minimize the disruption to guests. The renovation included four phases, working one building at a time so that construction won’t be happening near any occupied guest rooms. This project was particularly challenging due to the impacts of Covid-19.

“This was a unique project in the sense that our team also had a pandemic to worry about. We mobilized quickly to maintain the health and safety of our team, partners, subs and clients and were able to mitigate the issues that the pandemic caused – from long lead times on materials to having to shuffle the team – I couldn’t be more proud of the way our team handled the unknown and worked together to deliver a project that ourselves and our clients can be proud of.” said Haynes.

“Working through the pandemic was challenging, We had to constantly adjust to the changing guidelines during each phase and ensure the safety of our teammates was paramount,” says Project Manager Jeff Benevides. “We were able to successfully deliver a vibrant, boutique-style hotel that’s unlike anything in the area

"With the Wayfinder Hotel, we're reimagining what a Newport hotel can be, rethinking the basics, and engaging local talent who genuinely care about their craft and community. So we're thrilled to have the Haynes Group tackling our head-to-toe renovation. As Southern New Englanders, we know they'll take pride in the details just like we do,” said Phil Hospod, The Wayfinder Hotel developer and CEO of Dovetail + Co.

The boutique-style hotel features 195 guest rooms, a lobby, fitness center, an outdoor pool, pool shack, a full-service restaurant, cafe, and new meeting and event spaces.

Located at 151 Admiral Kalbfus Road, The Wayfinder is located at the gateway to Newport in a neighborhood that is undergoing a major transformation.
